
Unite! Blended Intensive Program on Communications engineering and data science
Learn about Communications and Data Science for industrial applications in this advanced bachelor's and master's level Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Program which will combine online learning at your home university and in-campus work at Aalto University Summer School. The application period ends on the 15th of May 2023.
Telecommunication operators and other big players in the industry are in great demand of experts in both telecommunications and data science.
Practical Information

Students will learn about:
- Emerging information technologies – the future in industry and society
- Emerging communication and network technologies
- Distributed computer networks
- Artificial intelligence in networking
Learning outcomes
- Develop cutting-edge automation competences: the programme boasts theoretical skills and practical expertise at the interconnection between communications and data science
- Learn how to transition towards security and privacy by integrating it into the design of all types of networks, specially in IoT applications
- Command the managing tools in distributed computer networks commonly deployed in IoT
- Collect, communicate, coordinate, and leverage data from connected devices
- Use a broad range of structuring and analysis tools to extract meaning from patterns.
- Develop professional skills – project management, professional communications, and teamworking competences through practical experience in an international environment.
The total course workload is 81 hours (3 ECTS), divided as follows:
- 12 hours on-site lectures
- 3 hours online lectures
- 40 hours guided work
- 26 hours independent work
The course is graded on a scale of 0-5, where
0 = fail, 1 = poor, 2 = satisfactory, 3 = good, 4 = very good, 5 = excellent.
This course accepts applications from 3rd year bachelor students or master degree student from universities of the Unite! alliance.
Prerequisites:
Students should have minimum 2+ years experience from a B.Sc./B.Eng. Degree in a technical area related to the programme, such as computer science, electrical or computer engineering.
Students must have a signed Learning Agreement from their university and be traveling under an Erasmus+ or Erasmus+0 in order to apply.
While there are no course fees to participate, students traveling from abroad must cover their own travel and accommodation costs. Students are expected to travel with their own health insurance.
For visiting students:
- We are accepting students with Erasmus+ status (E+ funding or 0-grant) from their home universities. Apply through the international office in your university.
- The international office will send the nominations to Aalto.
- Nominated students will be sent a link to apply to the Aalto programme. You will need to include your signed Learning Agreement and Transcript, as well as a CV and motivation letter
For Aalto students:
The application period will begin on May 15th.
